Shopify...

Well, due to some of e-junkies limitations (in filesize & such) I'm switching to Shopify (an online shopping cart system) to start things off. I'll very likely return to e-junkie to distribute some specialty items (as I like their format VERY much) but for the time being, I need more space than 'options'
I'm working on some projects that will include video Shopify seems to fit my needs.
Just posting this brief to #1 thank everyone for testng e-junkie (and I hope you enjoy your freebies)
and that #2 there may be a short (as short as humanly possibly) delay as I learn and integrate my cart into this new system (it can't possibly be more challenging than the wordpress plugin I was using and hope this new system makes life easier for everyone involved in my world.)
Stay tuned to www.dougconn.com for some serious changes in the VERY near future (broken record much?) Aight, That's all for now and on that note, lots to get done...
off to it...

Wizardz! Orlando 8/12

I'll be appearing at "Wizardz" Close-up Theatre in Kissimmee/Orlando FL this Monday 8/12
Showtime 7pm (doors open @  6)
Magic Lecture to follow after the show.

Who's Performing?

I hope to see some familiar faces and make some new friends while I'm there (Course, I would pick the weekend when Magic Live Convention is sucking 50% of the worlds magic community into Las Vegas. But that's all good. If you miss me  this week, I'll be back in January during my Florida Lecture Tour.)

Alright, my  todo list is a mile long... gotta roll (literally!) See ya soon Florida!

Animal Farm

As much as I like and respect Paul Cummins & his writing
I've decided a name change is appropriate for the Spongology routine

Animal Farm is the new title
(a callback to an old George Orwell book... )

This is actually an old title that I used when we sold the trick at The Big Easy Magic Co (RIP)

Below is the draft for the cover piece

I'm gonna look at it again later today and then after a final edit, everything goes to the printer
(so I can start shipping out the pre-sales ;)

The instructions will have several routine options from self working to the full Spongology piece (along with some extra Rab-bits) and all purchasers will have access to a webpage with video instructions and updated material.

It's happening. Finally.

VANISH!

Vanish! is a FREE International magic magazine, produced by Paul Romhany & Co.
I think I've mentioned it before (because it is worth reading @ over 100 pages of pro info, tips, tricks, etc)
They're up to issue #7 all of which are available here: http://www.vanishmagazine.com/

Yes, I said free. Don't let dissuade you from discovering this wonderful zine. It's a full color production with columns, tricks advice and information written by some of the top names in our biz. Here's a list of the current issue contributors: Chipper Lowell, Magic Babe Ning, Diamond Jim Tyler, Tony Chris, Paul Romhany, Nick Lewin, Wayne Rogers, Cris Johnson, Keith Fields, Lee Alex, Richard Webster,
Bizzaro, TC Tahoe, Danny Archer, Kyle Peron, Charles Bach, Steve Spill, Jeff McBride, Chase Hasty,
Bill Warren, Ben Robinson, Joe Gold, Paul Alberstat, Gwyn Auger, Anders Hansen, Felix, Leif David,
Banachek, Kyle Peron, Balu the Magician, Joe Pipia, Peter Mennie & More.

I'm sure a few of those names catch your eye. In short: they're serious about this thing.

I'd like to bring your attention to the current April / May issue where yours truly is featured in the review section. I'm happy to report "Built to Last - By Doug Conn" scores another high mark. And for that, as always, a tip of the hat to Rich Aviles at TRCKY.com who did an excellent job on the production.

Regarding the Built to Last  review:
The bottom line is "VERY Highly Recommended".
Here are some other quotes
I just didn’t want to know how to do the effects, I enjoyed being fooled and charmed by Doug’s magic.   I felt like a kid again enjoying being fooled Whether you are new to magic or a seasoned pro I think everybody will get A LOT from this DVD set.

Pinky Swear (My other current release) is also glowingly reviewed in this issue.
I’ve become a huge fan of Doug Conn’s and for those who love cards will definitely want to get this DVD. The magic on here is original and can be used by themselves or combined with other routines.

Wow, I'm gonna need to go buy bigger hats for my growing head!
(an open thanks for the kind words! thanks!)

If you'd like to go directly to this issue, click here to go to the 'yousendit' page
(yousendit is the service with which they distribute the mag.)
You can read it online or download a copy to your tablet, laptop, pc, etc.

Pinky Swear is available here
peruse the whole shebang on www.connmagic.com

I'm happy someone pointed me to the review (Thanks Rock!) because I'd forgot about this wonderful publication and look forward to reading it from top to bottom (as well as all  the other issues I've missed.)
I hope you en

Connjure up a blog

Welcome to my blog.

Perhaps an introduction is in order: My name is Doug Conn. I'm a professional magician. No, I'm not one of those guys with a glittery coat that bought a few easy tricks & makes balloon dogs. I'm a lifelong practicing, performing, creator & student of the arcane arts. I prefer close-up sleight of hand, but on any given day, there's no telling what I might be working on. My material has been critically acclaimed and (among many other things) includes a 200 page hardcover book of my original magic. It was authored by Paul Cummins & his FASDIU press: http://www.fasdiu.com/tomt.html "Tricks of My Trade - The Magic of Doug Conn" (now available only on CD Rom: the hardcover run sold out.)

If you'd like to see / learn more bout me... perhaps a visit to my YouTube channel will do the job:
http://www.youtube.com/connjure here's an example of what you'll find there:

This space will be used as a 'notebook' for all the interesting stuff I run across on the internet (and the occasional rant/ramble &/or thought provoking things.)

I've also been playing / using Tumblr & Zapped (to produce & post on/from my iphone) and  it's likely that I'll continue doing so & combine the three into one big blogging experience... stay tuned

You can expect posts bout prestidigitation, legerdemain & the related arts: puzzles, mnemonics, math, psychology, etc. There will most likely be lots of links to pages, posts & videos.

I've started other blogs  (and will likely continue them as a I see fit)
but, this is gonna be the space I 'bookmark' all the cool stuffs I think are worth seeing (& re-seeing)
I'm thinking / hoping that this process will make these things more memorable to my grey matter. At the very least, it should provide a way to review the web-finds I enjoy.

Speaking of Grey Matter... lets start there. Great website
http://headinside.blogspot.com/
go ahead (right) click & check it out... scroll down a bit to the 'topics' on the right side... droool.

a semi-related site that I visit & revisit is Ron Hale Evan's "Mentat Wiki"
http://www.ludism.org/mentat Ron Evans is the author of the wonderful "Mind Performance Hacks" (great book that will make your life better.)

alrighy... that's a start.
Cya on the flip side.
