Bourbon Busking

What a great night! ;)

Did a couple pieces I don't normally do (Plastic Surgery & Flush Brush.)
I closed with the painting routine & scored a $45 hat (12 minutes of close-up busking ;)

Then, continuing with some enthusiastic hanger ons; when doing multiple selection, a guy thru out his subway card challenging me to use it...
It ended being the finale, coming out of a zippered portion of my wallet ;)
(And that scored me another $20 ;) ;)

One of the spectators filmed the set on his Iphone. I asked him to send it to me... Hopefully, I'll have some video to post soon...

Smiley McSmileson as I put this beat body to bed

Tunage

Picked up this cool iPhone remote at Autozone for $20...
This + a phone & my ($90) amp (thr amp post is elsewhere on this blog) will allow me to have remote control over songs, menu, volume, etc.
One more step closer to awesomess ;)

The Legendary Hierophant

"Card Tricks are to Poker as *Coin Tricks are to Flipping a Coin"
                                                                                     The Hierophant

I've re-reading this wonderful book (thanks to a friend of a friend and of course, thanks to Jon Racherbaumer who compiled and authored the material.) I had a few of the original issues, but never the whole enchilada... Wowswers is there some good trickin in this book. I flashed back smiling many times as I re-read some of the stuffs I learned over 20 years ago and then smiled even bigger as I came across plots long forgotten: SIGNATURE TRANSPOSITION is an incredible plot that inspired me to get off my arse & share the news: Get this book. *Note: there are flaws. I hate the layout: would have much preferred just an exact reprint of the originals (and there are errors in the index) but the material / the substance is superb.

*there are some great coin tricks (etc) in the book as well ;)
re: etc... Roland Hurely's ball vase subtlety is a butt kicker just waiting to be used..

Busking Collage

A busking collage from Bourbon St.
... the guy in the red was awesome.

USPCC Social Gaming App

Some news from the interwebs...
(this could be interesting on many levels for many reasons)
At the very least, I'll be happy if it helps just one more person understand exactly what a playing card is (many don't these digital days.)

The United States Playing Card Company and digi117 team up to introduce Zeniz, a groundbreaking mobile social casino company.
The United States Playing Card Company (“USPC”), a subsidiary of Jarden Corporation (NYSE: JAH), today announced a partnership with mobile strategy agency digi117 to launch the Zeniz Social Casino (“Zeniz”), a mobile social gaming platform planned for iOS and Android release this spring.

Mullica's Mouth

One of the true masters of close-up / intimate magic... Tom Mullica

Wow, what a great clip! :) :) :)

So...
I posted this clip, thinking / wondering why more magicians don't use his method for revealing the card in mouth. This (somewhat gross) effect has become quite popular (especially among the busking community) and I've yet to see anyone aside from Mullica perform his 'reveal'.

Shame...

Signing off in hopes that one of you who perform this effect, will start revealing it the BEST way

PS: an open note of thanks to Mr. Mullica for showing us how great our art can be.

Sidenote: If you haven't seen his Stevens Video or the Showtime @ The Tom Foolery, you're missing out on some of the BEST magic to ever be documented... fix that mistake immediately. Close-up / Stage, Silent/Comedy (or anywhere in-between) you're guaranteed to learn a lesson (or 10) on how to perform proper magic.

Pip - Trip

Pip Trip was published in Tricks of My Trade - The Magic of Doug Conn
more info on that here: http://www.fasdiu.com/tomt.html

Here's the effect:

The cards I'm using are the 'Pip - Streak' paste-boards produced by Greg Wilson

I'm happy to report they work wonderful for the original handling
(unlike some of the 'improved' versions that were released ;)

Toot & Talksalot

Visited with a cpl of the all the great buskers today...

Here I am with "Toot" & Jimmy

Travel well you two... Travel well

The Badger

Received my new "Badger" wallet from Tony Miller / RFAproductions. Its a combo, Mullica / Kaps & it's hip-pocket ;)

Though it's only been one day... I'm confident in highly recommending this beautiful wallet. It's exactly what I expected (& my expectations were high.)

I'm looking forward to putting signed card in wallet back into my card routines
&
I'm dying to try Greg Wilson's "License to Thrill" routine (from the Paul Harris AOA#1 book) methinks it'll kill in most NOLA venues (it revolves around a sobriety test ;). ^this could play as a closer...

Curtis / Sam

Curtis Cam is a smart, skillful magician who has published a good bit of material though the years:
His (OOP) book "Deceptions in Paradise" is a wonderful read &  his Video Series "Palms of Steel" (coin magic) is outstanding on many levels.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of perusing his 'lecture notes'. Wow, what a treat!
I say 'lecture notes' because that's what he called them, but I assure you, they're much more than that.
To the best of my knowledge , these notes are out of print... dunno for sure, but I can tell ya this:
If you can get your hands on his "Stage Coach" notes do it.

The pages contain advice from a guy that's been a working pro for many moons.
There are several GREAT essays and some wonderful magic routines  (ALL of them are workable.)
I found a couple that I intend to put in my act ASAP
The creme-dele-creme is his presentation / suggestions / tips for: Sam the Bellhop (a classic of magic)
Curtis makes the trick make it play bigger & better than ever.

If you've never seen the Sam routine, click below for a peep @ Bill Malone's gut-busting presentation
http://youtu.be/GErpOl3KG_w

(sorry, there's no footage of Curtis' performing the routine... and I'm just fine with that ;)

Aight, that's today's note/ramble/bookmark/suggestion (it's more for my reference than you... but if you get some use out of these thoughts... congratulations.)
